Nant Mill Visitor Centre

Whether you want to discover local wildlife and history of the Clywedog Valley or take a stimulating walk through splendid woods and countryside, this former corn mill is a great location for walkers or a family visit.

The Visitor Centre nestles in beautiful ancient woodland alongside the enchanting River Clywedog. Nant Mill is located on the Clywedog Trail, which winds for 6.5 miles through glorious countryside from Minera Lead Mines, through Nant Wood and Plas Power Wood, where Offa's Dyke can be seen, passed the Bersham Iron Works and Heritage Centre, the impressive Erddig Estate and on to King's Mill in Wrexham.

For those who don't wish to venture too far, there are shorter walks starting from the Visitor Centre and lots of activities to keep youngsters entertained inside. They can explore the giant mole tunnel and imagine what it is like to be a mole or use the interactive mini beast display to play and learn at the same time! See the beautiful etched glass window, the giant wooden pigs in the old pigsty and the 'Glimpse Gates' inspired by the industrial past of the valley. The Bird Thrones on the picnic area provide a perfect place for storytelling and there is also a small children's playground and reflective garden.

If you like to watch wildlife, spend some time in the bird hide. It’s not just birds who like to entertain the visitors, but the squirrels and bank voles, too!

It is an ideal location for duck races that are easy to run and a great way to raise funds for your charity, school or football club. Ducks can be hired, by prior arrangement, from the Visitor Centre and you can spend an afternoon having fun in the river and fundraising at the same time!

The Friends of Nant Mill

The Friends of Nant Mill Committee meets every month to discuss the park and its management.

The Friends of Nant Mill hope to represent residents living in the surrounding area and visitors from further afield. They will provide a range of environmental volunteer opportunities to suit people’s age, interests and ability.

The group will circulate information and regularly consult its members and will promote awareness about environmental issues through events and activities. They will help develop the facilities at Nant Mill, raise funds for development projects and volunteer opportunities.

How To Get There

Two young kestrels were the star attraction at Nant Mill for a couple of weeks in early July 2008 Nant Mill Visitor Centre is located three miles west of Wrexham near the village of Coedpoeth. Take the Ruthin turn off the A483 and head towards Ruthin. The ‘Nant Mill’ signpost is the first left in the village of Coedpoeth. Alternatively you can follow the signposts for Johnstown/Rhosllanerchrugog off the A483 and then the ‘Clywedog/Bersham’ signposts. Turning left in Bersham for Nant Mill. Buses are advised to enter the park from Bersham.

To travel by bus from Wrexham Bus Station: G. Edwards 9 or 10 or Arriva 10 or 11.

Opening Times

The park is open all year.

The Visitor Centre is open:

Easter to September daily 10.30am - 4.30pm

October to Easter weekends only
