Wrexham County Borough Council took the decision to form a Task & Finish Group of Elected Members, which first met in November 2004. The initial intention was to improve the representation and importance of rail services in the forthcoming Regional Transport Plan.
The groups’ current membership is:
The group meets between four and six times per year with the Community Rail Officers of the Borderlands and Chester – Shrewsbury Rail Partnerships as well as officer representatives of the Transportation & Asset Management Department. Regular agenda items include updates from the Shrewsbury – Chester Rail Partnership (external link) and the Borderlands Steering Group (external link), current projects, proposed timetable amendments and improvements to rail infrastructure. The group occasionally invites representatives from the rail industry.
The group facilitated the introduction of the Future of Rail in Wrexham document and its adoption by the Councils Executive Board. The group also assists officers in lobbying for improvements to the rail services and infrastructure.
