Frequently Asked Questions about Dispensations

 

When will a Yellow Line Dispensation NOT be granted even if the applicant meets the eligibility criteria?

A yellow line dispensation will not be granted in the following circumstances:

  • Restricted Access – no large vehicles
  • Private Road
  • Road too narrow

How long is the dispensation valid for?

  • Minimum: 24 hours from the time of issue. It cannot be backdated.
  • Maximum: 7 continuous days (can include Saturdays and Sundays if the parking zone in which they are working is controlled on these days

Can I renew my Yellow Line Dispensation?

No - you will need to obtain a new one from the Council’s Parking Services.

Can I use my Yellow Line Dispensation to park in another location?

No, this is not permitted. You will need to arrange another dispensation that is valid for the parking zone where you wish to park.

Can I use my Yellow Line Dispensation with another vehicle?

No - dispensations are non-transferable and may only be used on the vehicle and for the specific purpose for which they were arranged. You will need to obtain another separate dispensation if another vehicle is to be used.

What do I do if I hold a valid yellow line dispensation and a Civil Enforcement Officer or Police Officer advises me to move?

A Civil Enforcement Officer or Police Officer can ask the holder of a valid dispensation to move in order to ensure the free flow of traffic. Even if a customer holds a valid yellow line dispensation the customer is still obliged to follow the instructions of a Civil Enforcement Officer or Police Officer.

How do Civil Enforcement Officers enforce yellow line dispensations?

Civil Enforcement Officers will be able to check the validity of a yellow line dispensation by looking at the permit displayed in the car and by observing activity at the vehicle. The activity must be taking place in order for the dispensation to be valid.

Can I use the dispensation on a yellow line with kerb markings?

No, the dispensation is for use on yellow lines without kerb markings except where specific permission to park on an area with a loading restrictions has been given.

When may I be granted a dispensation in an area with a loading ban?

It is only in exceptional circumstances that you will be granted use of the dispensation to park your vehicle in a loading ban area. Granting of this permission is dependant upon the individual application.
