Local Government Political Groups

Welsh Local Government Association

The Welsh Local Government Association represents the interests of local authorities in Wales. The three fire and rescue authorities, four police authorities and three national park authorities are associate members.

Local Government Association (LGA) Political Groups site

The LGA represents all local authorities in England and Wales - a total of just under 500 authorities (34 county councils, 36 metropolitan district councils, 47 English unitary authorities, 33 London authorities, 238 shire district councils and 22 Welsh unitary authorities). The LGA also represents police authorities, through the Association of Police Authorities (APA); fire authorities and passenger transport authorities. A key feature of the LGA Regional Structure is the Welsh Local Government Association - the WLGA is a constituent part of the LGA, but retains full autonomy in dealing with Welsh affairs.

Local Government Association (LGA) Conservative Group

The LGA Conservative Group exists to support Conservative councillors involved the LGA by offering advice, research and policy support. The Group Office also provides media communications support for members. The Group produces policy briefings and a regular newsletter as well as acting as a link between councillors, the Parliamentary Party and the Conservative Party at large.

Local Government Association (LGA) Independent Group

The Independent Group is recognised by the Local Government Association and plays a full part in the activities of the Association, with our members being appointed to all policy executives, task groups and outside bodies.

Local Government Association (LGA) Labour Group

The LGA Labour Group via its eLocalist, various publications and website, provides for discussion of ideas and proposals from a Labour point of view. We aim to bring Local Government issues to a wider Labour Group audience and to influence policy. We also provide services to individual Labour Groups, including political intelligence, training and advice.

Local Goverment Association (LGA) Liberal Democrat Group

We are the persistent defenders of local democracy, arguing that what a local community can do for itself is best left to that community, without interference from central government. We also carry this message to Government and the wider world.
