Public Rights of Way

There are over 850 kilometres (525 miles) of recorded public rights of way in Wrexham County Borough.

Whether you are travelling to and from work, exercising to get that blood pressure down or strolling to relax and forget the stresses of modern life, our network of footpaths, bridleways and byways provide a network of delightful routes. Follow them and you will encounter the finest landscape and most fascinating heritage in the county borough.

In Wrexham we have three main types of Public Right of Way:

Public Footpath - The public has a right to pass and repass on foot only.

Public Bridleway - The public has a right to pass and repass on foot, on horseback or leading a horse, and on a pedal cycle.

Byway Open to All Traffic - The public has a right to pass and repass on foot, on horseback or leading a horse, on a pedal cycle, or with a vehicle but the route is mainly used by pedestrians and/or horses.

All motor vehicles are prohibited on footpaths and bridleways and it is a criminal offence to drive on them unless you are the landowner, have the express consent of the landowner, or have a private vehicular access that runs along the route.

In addition to the above public rights of way, there are several miles of quiet unmetalled unclassified county roads, carrying only minimal motor traffic.
