Swim Ratio Policy

To comply with National Approved recommendations, Wrexham County Borough has had a policy in place which recognises the need to ensure that children and parents have as safe an environment as possible to swim in. All pools within the Authority comply with this policy which has been in place for some years.

The National Policy’s recommendations for swim ratios for parents or guardians with children under 8 years of age are as follows:

Children under 5 - 1:1
Children under 8 - 2:1

A suitable adult (16 years of age) must provide supervision.

Please note. The above policy applies at all times during any School holiday free swim session.
During any other period. The following policy will apply.

As all swimming pools within the County Borough are different the management of each pool will assess each situation as it arises to ensure some degree of flexibility.

This assessment will be made by the Duty Officer on shift to determine if access is permissible subject to parents/guardians meeting 'local' recommendations to vary the National Policy.

It is advisable that you should contact your chosen swimming pool on the day you intend to visit to enquire about the conditions of the pool.
