"SkillBuild" Training Course

The aim of the course is to assist all those unemployed, over the age 16 to obtain employment. The course covers Job Search, Key Skills and Information Technology training using Microsoft Office. You will be expected to attend a minimum of a 4 weeks work experience with a local company or organisation. It is hoped by the end of the course you will have a full time placement and work towards an appropriate NVQ qualification.

The Course

Our "SkillBuild" training course will give you the following:

• A Job Search qualification based on the creation of a CV, Identifying Job Opportunities, Completing Application Forms, Interview Techniques and finishing with a mock interview.

• A Key Skill

• Information Technology qualifications – European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) and Certificate in Text Processing – at appropriate level.

• Support with Numeracy and Literacy

• Work Experience – last 4 weeks

The course is full-time, Monday to Thursday 8.45am to 4.00pm and Friday 8.45am to 1.00pm. There is a 15 minute break in the morning and afternoon with 45 minutes for lunch. The length of the course will be a maximum of 12 weeks.

For 16 -18 year olds, an attendance allowance of £50 per week is paid every 4 weeks.
For those over 18 and registered with Jobcentre plus an £10/week is paid in addition to any benefits being claimed – subject to eligibility.

If you come by bus, train or drive you may also be eligible for reimbursement of your travel expenses, but you must pay the first £5, each week, towards your costs.
We have a canteen with a hot and cold drinks vending machine but you do need to bring your own lunch. We have a dress code for all learners – smart casual – no jeans, trainers, base ball hats etc.  Regular attendance and good timekeeping is essential to ensure that you get the maximum benefits from the course.

Our location is served by a regular bus service from King Street.

Eligibility

You must be 16 or over, left school or college, registered with and endorsed by Careers Wales (16 -18) or, over 18, registered with Jobcentre plus.
