New Era for Public Protection Services

Residents in Wrexham are set to see an improved and streamlined Public Protection Service following a move to a single site which will make more effective use of staff and resources.

Foot and Mouth Disease Update

From midnight on 23rd August 2007 the Foot and Mouth restriction zone covering Wales was lifted.  This does not mean a complete return to normal business and trading. Vigilance and high levels of bio-security remain key priorities.

Wrexham Celebrate as GCSE Examination Passes Increase

Educational Standards in Wrexham are on the up, GCSE figures out today have shown an improvement on 2006 figures which themselves had shown a significant improvement on 2005 results.

Wrexham Learning Festival is back for its second year and the success of last year's event means that it is now bigger and better.

Tree Strategy Questionnaire

Residents in Wrexham are being asked their views on how the county borough's trees should be looked after. A questionnaire by Wrexham Council's Environment Services Department is now available on the Wrexham Website.

Wrexham A-Level Results 2007

Students in Wrexham schools have once again received excellent A Level and AS level results. Whilst not all of the results have been fully analysed, early indications suggest an overall pass rate of 99.1%, which is 0.9% higher than in 2006 and 2% higher than the 2007 Wales national average.

Foot and Mouth Disease 13th August Update

Due to the disease appearing to have been contained in the protection and surveillance zones in Surrey, the Welsh Assembly Government have made further relaxations to the rules applying within the restricted area.

The hard fought competition for the Wrexham in Bloom Pubs "Best Floral Display" competition has finally been won by the Red Withers Inn on Wrexham's Industrial Estate.

Foot and Mouth Disease

Following the investigation of suspected Foot and Mouth Disease near Guildford in Surrey, a GB wide national movement ban of all pigs, cattle, sheep and other ruminants has been imposed. Throughout the country no animal movements are allowed except under licence.

Following the success of last year’s event, Saturday 4th August will see the return of a Family Fun Day at Trevor Basin alongside the mighty Pontcysyllte Aqueduct.

National Play Day Celebrations in Wrexham

Wrexham town centre hosted an event for National Play Day this week. Using the theme "Our Streets Too!" a variety of play organisations came together to reclaim the Square and the road leading up to it.

New Moorland Walk to World’s End for the Experienced Rambler!

For some time people have been asking Wrexham Council for a longer self-guided walk. The Rights of Way team is now pleased to announce the launch of the very long Mines, Moorland and Mountain Walk that should satisfy all but the most serious long-distance ramblers. But this one is not only long, it’s high as well, climbing to 565 metres (1853 feet).

Wrexham County Borough Council is the 2006 winner of the annual ‘FIT Cymru Playing Field Protection Award’ which is sponsored by the Royal Mail.

Enforcement Officers Go Undercover

The recent campaign to reduce dog fouling has found that irresponsible behaviour is continuing in one of Wrexham’s most well kept parks. Alyn Waters Country Park which is hoping to be awarded Green Flag Status again this year has been targeted by officers from the Council's Environmental Enforcement Team.

Eagles Meadow Development- Emergency Road Closure

To enable emergency repairs to be undertaken to one of the tower cranes on the Eagles Meadow Development it is necessary to erect a 500 ton mobile crane on the northbound carriageway of Smithfield Road (towards St George's Crescent).
