Childcare Information Available Online

From the 2nd April, parents and carers looking for childcare will be able to access information online. The Children’s Information Bureau has a database of all childcare services in Wrexham County Borough, such as childminders, day nurseries, playgroups, toddler groups, out of school clubs and playschemes.

Holidays in Term Time

Every day at school counts. Children who have the best rates of attendance achieve the best results and taking a holiday in term time can affect their academic achievements. Parents in Wrexham are being asked not to take their children out of school for holidays and Wrexham Council hope that by working in partnership with Global Travel in Wrexham, they will now have an incentive to wait until end of term.

Innovation Award for Road Safety Partnership

The aptly named "Impact" Road Show is the result of the close partnership working between Wrexham County Borough Council 's Road Safety Section and White Watch of Wrexham's Fire and Rescue Service. The Impact Road Show graphically demonstrates the types of injuries than can be sustained during a collision, even at low speed and gives the Officers who present the show the opportunity to give advice on all aspects of in-car safety.

Chester - Wrexham - Shrewsbury Rail Study

March 23rd 2007 sees the official release of a report into potential improvements for the rail line between Chester, Wrexham and Shrewsbury. The study, sponsored by the Welsh Assembly Government, TAITH, Cheshire County Council, Oswestry Borough Council, Shropshire County Council and Arriva Trains Wales, was produced by Scott Wilson Railways.

Junior Road Safety Officers

Wrexham primary schools' Junior Road Safety Officers were invited to a special event at the Memorial Hall last week to celebrate a very successful year. The Mayor, Councillor George James, presented each Junior Road Safety Officer with a certificate recognising their membership of the JRSO scheme. The Road Safety Team's mascot, border collie Meg Meddwl also came along to support the young people.

National Share The Care Week 19th-26th March 2007

Give a little time make a big difference... Caring for a child with a disability or health condition can be a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week job, often with no breaks. No time for yourself and little time to devote to other children. The people of Wrexham are being asked to think about whether they could give a ‘little time and make a big difference’ to the lives of disabled children and their families.

Do you need funding for Sport & Physical Activity?

COMMUNITY CHEST is a Sports Council for Wales National Lottery grant funded scheme that is designed to encourage more people to become physically active more often. The maximum grant awarded is £1,000, however if you are a club then you are eligible to use £1,000 for club development and also apply for a further £1,000 for physical activity/health initiatives within your club.

Year 7 students at Ysgol Rhiwabon were last week visited by the Walking Forward Theatre Company who delivered a fast paced production called 'The Price' that captivated the audience with a mixture of anarchic comedy and moving drama.

Somerfield Site of new Neighbourhood Recycling Centre for Johnstown

Households in the Johnstown area can now take advantage of a brand new Neighbourhood Recycling Centre to help them recycle even more of their household waste. Based in the car park of the Somerfield store, there are facilities to collect paper, glass, cans, plastic bottles and cardboard.
