Environmental Action Day at Plas Madoc
The fight to clean up Wrexham's neighbourhoods continues today (6th June) when an Environmental Action Day took place in Plas Madoc.
During the day teams worked cleaning graffiti, removing litter and dumped rubbish. Advice was available on crime reduction, home fire safety checks and how to find help with housing defects and private tenancy issues. The areas of Glaslyn, Gwynant, Alwen, Dinas and Ogwen were included in the event.
The aim of the day was to improve the environment and conditions in the area in order that residents can have an improved quality of life. Other objectives demonstrated that different agencies, departments and organisations can work together to improve the environment, reduce crime and anti social behaviour, improve public safety, provide reassurance to the public and improve their confidence in the ability of the agencies to deal with issues that cause them concern.
The Environmental Action Day was arranged locally by the Plas Madoc Community Safety Group, which is part of the Communities First Programme on the estate. The Community Safety Group is a mixture of tenants and officers from partner agencies and conducts annual consultation with people on the estate to identify their concerns and priorities. The Environmental Action Day has been designed to address the key issues that have been raised.

The day was supported by the Community Safety Partnership's Joint Action Group and agencies including Wrexham Council, North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, North Wales Police, North Wales Probation, Learning Skills Wales, Ysgol Rhosymedre and Keep Wales Tidy contributed on the day.
The teams operated from a central base which on this occasion was be the Communities First inflatable building, sited in Glaslyn.
Environmental Action Days have taken place at various locations throughout the County Borough and have always made a difference to the environment and the attitude by residents to keeping it clean and tidy. They are a very successful UK initiative and have proved an unquestionable success.
Andrew Harradine, Development Manager with Plas Madoc Communities First, said:
"It is important that residents feel safe and have pride in their environment. By taking a multi agency approach we can all work together to ensure that this happens and that everyone is encouraged to keep the area clean, tidy and free from anti social behaviour."
