Wrexham Council Names Driver of the Year
Dave Maybury, a sweeper driver working with Wrexham Council's Environment Services' Pride in Your Streets department has been named by the Council as the overall winner of its "driver of the year" award at a ceremony held today (23rd November).
Dave will receive £100 in CAPITA Bonds which can be exchanged in numerous high street stores and a trophy sponsored by the Council's insurers Zurich Municipal. Other category winners receive £50.00 in Bonds and second and third places receive £30 and £20 respectively.
John Bradbury, Chief Environment Services Officer, said:
"I would like to congratulate everyone who was nominated for an award and for the very high standards maintained by our drivers. Our drivers are regularly seen throughout the county borough by residents and visitors and they play a major part in the impression everyone gains of the authority. Well done everybody and keep up the good work."
The Driver of the Year Awards is the brainchild of the Council's Insurance Risk Management Motor Improvement Group as a means of showing appreciation and rewarding those drivers of the Council's commercial vehicles who looked after their vehicles. Ensuring that they were clean and tidy internally and externally, had undertaken safety checks and who by the manner of their driving and the fact that they had not been involved in any accidents achieved the highest standards of safety and care whilst "on the road".
The scheme is reviewed regularly by the Council's Motor Improvement Group to ensure it remains relevant. This scheme together with others involving the Council's fleet of vehicles has seen claims numbers reduce by some 60% when comparing the period April 1996 to March 2002 with the period April 2002 to the present day.
