Wrexham Youngsters Get Connected
Two new magazines for children and young people living in Wrexham County Borough have been launched today.
The Children’s Connect for 4-11 year olds and Young People’s Connect for 11-18 year olds are two brand new publications produced by Wrexham County Borough Council. They will be delivered via schools and youth clubs later this week.
The bright and funky magazines have been developed following the creation of a new Children and Young People Service for Wrexham put in place to ensure that services affecting young people living in the County Borough are easily accessible to them. They are based on the Council’s own “Connect” magazine that is delivered to Wrexham residents.
Both magazines contain a mix of informative articles and competitions. It is hoped that future editions will include items from Wrexham youngsters to encourage them to engage with the Council and give them an opportunity to voice their opinions and views on a wide range of issues affecting them today.

Pupils from Rhosnesni and Penley High Schools and All Saints, Gresford and St Giles Primary Schools visited the Guildhall earlier in the summer to share their views on colours, design and content for the magazines.
Speaking at the launch, Leader of Wrexham Council, Cllr Aled Roberts said: “We want to make sure that Wrexham County Borough is a really good place to live, with plenty going on for young people. It’s important that decisions that affect them are not just taken by adults and that they are give a chance to get their voices heard.“
Cllr Roberts added: “Keeping fit and healthy, doing more for the environment and improving educational attainment are some of the issues that we want to tackle but we know that there are others that are important to young people.
We hope that the Children’s Connect and Young People’s Connect will create more opportunities for them to contact us and tell us exactly what they think about life in Wrexham.”
Strategic Director, Terry Garner said: “This new magazine is a positive example of our efforts to further communicate with Wrexham’s children and young people. We value their contributions, views and take on life that help us plan services for the future and look forward to getting their feedback for future editions of the magazines.”
The magazine has been produced by the Corporate Communications Unit on behalf of the Children and Young People Service, designed by Bread and Butter Design in Rhosllanerchrugog and will be delivered via schools and the Wrexham Youth Service.
