Cyfle School girl mums' unit receives full marks in Inspection Report

Cyfle Wrexham (the LEA funded educational unit for pregnant and parenting school-girls) was recently inspected under ESTYN’s new framework. We are delighted to announce that the team of inspectors found Cyfle to be well run, providing an excellent service to its pupils and extremely good value for money. Cyfle gained top grades in all aspects of the service that were inspected.

What they said about Cyfle:

“The Cyfle Young Mothers’ Unit provides OUTSTANDING education and support for pregnant and parenting schoolgirls. The centre is very well managed and organised to meet the particular and individual needs of the pupils, so that thay have the best possible opportunity to effectively continue their education and successfully tackle the problems associated with early parenthood.”

“They make OUTSTANDING progress in the development of their personal and social skills, particularly in their self-esteem, attitude to learning and positive view of their future.”

“There is a highly successful collaboration between the Northeast Wales Midwifery Service and the unit. As a result of this, a course called Mums2B is offered to all the pregnant pupils and takes place at a local hospital. This again is an OUTSTANDING feature of the provision.”

“Overall, across the range of curriculum subjects studied, the pupils make OUTSTANDING progress…pupils are very productive, make up for lost time and often achieve level of accreditation that exceed expectation.”

Councillor Arwel Jones, the Council’s Lead Member for Children and Young People said “This extremely positive inspection report provides the evidence for the sound achievement of this educational unit. The outcome of the inspection is a credit to the staff of Cyfle who are clearly meeting the needs of their pupils during a potentially difficult period of their life”.
