State of the art technology provides security for neighbourhood wardens in Wrexham
New state of the art mobile phones, called the Cybertrak system, will be given to all the County Borough's Neighbourhood Wardens to help with their safety as they patrol their patch.
The mobiles make it possible to pinpoint the whereabouts of the wardens on street level maps using computers linked to the internet and a personal identification number. The Cybertrak system is developed by call centre operator Orbis Monitoring and available through the Orange network.
There are currently 11 wardens working in wards across the County Borough who from Thursday, will pick up their mobile phones each morning and lock-on to the satellite. Should they fail to log-in by radio every hour, their whereabouts can be checked on the Cybertrack website. In an emergency the activation of the phone's SOS button allows call centre staff to listen in on the incident, assess the risk and direct emergency support and the police to the scene as necessary.
The funding for the package came from the Wrexham Community Safety Partnership.
Leader of the Council, Cllr Aled Roberts has special responsibility for Community Safety issues. He said: "I welcome this initiative and this is another tool that will help in the fight against anti-social behaviour and cutting crime in our communities."
