Launch of New Community Safety Unit
Working together to reduce crime and the fear of crime has always been top of the agenda for the Wrexham Community Safety Partnership. And now 'working together' means just that, as the new Community Safety Unit in Hightown, is officially opened by the Mayor of Wrexham, Councillor Mike Edwards.
The Unit’s new base brings together police and local authority officers, as well as specialists such as the Substance Misuse and Domestic Violence Co-ordinators.

Wrexham is the first Community Safety Partnership in North Wales to have all its key staff based in one location. Wrexham Council's Strategic Director Malcolm Russell is Chair of the Community Safety Partnership and believes the changes will make the Partnership even more effective in achieving its aims. He said
"In any unit made up of numerous backgrounds, communication is crucial. With everyone being in the same building, we can all work more closely without the need to arrange formal meetings at mutually convenient locations.
"We can also all share ideas informally and deal with enquiries more quickly than by being dispersed."
Chief Supt Phill Thomson, Eastern Divisional Commander at North Wales Police said:
"For many years the enforcement of legislation was the only way that crime was addressed. The major change of recent years is the partnership approach to preventing crime and anti social behaviour. By working together with all the partner agencies we can be much more effective in tackling the issues of concern and their causes. The absence of crime frees up the resources of everyone in the partnership and makes the county a safer and better place to live."
