Compost Awareness Week - The Great Compost Giveaway Returns
Wrexham CB Council wishes to congratulate all those residents that use a home compost bin and put garden waste into their green bins as part of the Recycle with Michael scheme.
In 2005-6 Wrexham residents helped divert more than 6500 tonnes of garden waste from landfill and turned it into compost! “This is a massive amount” said Recycling Officer, Catherine Knight “and we want to thank everyone who composts.”
Householders are actively encouraged to put items such as vegetable peelings, fruit peelings, tea bags, pet hair, cardboard and garden waste such as grass cuttings into their home compost bins. More bulky garden waste items such as hedge prunings and tree branches can either be put into the green bins on the Recycle with Michael Scheme or taken to the Household Recycling Centres and put into the Garden Waste skips.
There are two Home Compost Promotional Events, including a free Compost Giveaway as part of National Compost Awareness Week running from 7th to the 13th May 2006. Wrexham residents are asked to bring a sack and shovel to take away the FREE compost. They are taking place at Alyn Waters Country Park on Sunday 7th May and Ty Mawr Country Park on Saturday 13th May both running from 10am-4pm.
If you would like more information regarding how to create your own free supply of compost using a home composting bin please contact the Council on 01978 292085, or email recycling@wrexham.gov.uk
