Lottery Grants for Wrexham’s Community Organisations

Community organisations in Wrexham will be over £6750 better off thanks to the latest round of National Lottery grants from the Sports Council in Wales’ Community Chest Scheme.

Community Chest is a Wales wide National Lottery funded scheme administered by the Sports Council for Wales in partnership with the local authorities in Wales and in Wrexham, 10 organisations have been awarded grants ranging from £260 to £750!
The beneficiaries this time round were:

Sir W W Wynn’s Pony Club – Funding for club members to attend First Aid and Child Welfare courses.

Brymbo Cricket Club – Funding for 2 members to attend a Level 1 Cricket course.

Llay Welfare Bowling Club – Equipment and funding for a taster day to encourage membership at the club.

North Wales Police in partnership with Wrexham Council – Coach education and equipment to enable neighbourhood wardens to gain qualifications in order for them to organise football festivals between youth centres with the assistance of Wrexham Sports Development team.

Penycae Football Club – Coach education and equipment to assist in the formation of a new under 10’s girls section.

Rhosnesni Adult Netball Club - Coach education, equipment and kit to assist in setting up a new affiliated adult netball club.

Wrexham Rugby Club – Coach education and equipment to assist in setting up a social over 18’s Touch/Tag Rugby section.

Decisions on the awarding of grants are made by Community Chest panels in each of the 22 Welsh local authorities, each one consisting of a representative cross-section of the local voluntary sector, including up to three nominated local authority members. Their next meeting will be on June 21st 2006.

If you are part of a voluntary organisation and have an interest in physical activity, health or sport then Wrexham’s Community Chest panel would like to speak to you about applying for a grant yourself! For more information on the Community Chest scheme, or for information on how to apply, contact Samantha White at Wrexham County Borough Council on 01978 297366.
