Collection for The Army Benevolent Current Operations Fund in Wrexham

The Mayor of Wrexham, Councillor Mrs Joan Lowe, was pleased to meet soldiers from 3rd Battalion The Royal Welsh to help publicise a forthcoming event organised by the Army Benevolent Fund.

On Saturday 26th April the Army Benevolent Fund will be holding a street collection, in Wrexham town centre, in aid of its Current Operations Fund.

The Fund raises money to provide support and assistance for those soldiers returning from current military operations in the Middle East and allows both those still serving in the Army and retired soldiers to receive help if and when needed.

Collections will be made by Comrades of the Royal Welch Fusiliers, the Army Cadet Force and some serving soldiers from the Territorial Army. It will take place in Wrexham town centre and at the Racecourse for Wrexham's home game against Accrington Stanley. Activities on the day will include a climbing tower being erected on Queens Square.

Colonel JCW Williams, MC, Chairman of the ABF North Wales Fund, said: “This new Fund started in October 2007 is targeted to help those in need as the direct result of on going military operations in the Middle East. I can think of no more supportive people that those who live in and around Wrexham which has an unrivalled record of support to the Army and especially The Royal Welch Fusiliers. This will be an excellent opportunity for everyone to show their appreciation for the heroic efforts of our soldiers in the most trying conditions and especially all those in need”.
