Canterbury Tales
A "Mappa Mundi/Theatr Mwldan/Creu Cymru" Co-Production At Stiwt Theatre, Rhos on Wednesday 8th March 2006.
Mappa Mundi stage a hilarious and dramatic comical adaptation of medieval literature’s great unfinished epic, Canterbury Tales at Stiwt Theatre, Rhos on Wednesday 8th March. This promises to be a light hearted and slightly naughty evening!
Canterbury Tales stars Kieron Self who has recently finished filming brand new episodes of the BBC sitcoms My Family and High Hopes. Other members of the amazingly talented Mappa Mundi cast includes actors from Holby City and BBC Wales’ Lucky Bag.
Mappa Mundi have revived and updated their popular sell-out show, filling the stage with a hugely entertaining blend of boisterous comedy, romance, fetching images and heaps of wit and charm.
Life’s rich tapestry is all here, as a group of Welsh commoners pass the time on their annual pilgrimage to Canterbury by performing some of Chaucer’s most appealing tales. The show features some of Chaucer’s best-loved stories (including The Miller’s Tale, The Nun’s Priest’s Tale and The Wife of Bath’s Tale), all set to a delightful original score by Mappa Mundi’s own composer, Peter Knight.
When Chaucer wrote The Canterbury Tales, it was a social satire of the times, a snapshot of medieval life and its humanity. He gave the ordinary man a voice and this still resonates in the twenty first century. Like Chaucer, Mappa Mundi know that people love hearing a good story, and they certainly know how to tell one!
Mappa Mundi’s Canterbury Tales is a joyous story, full of earthly humour, and an entertaining evening is promised for all. We hope you enjoy Mappa Mundi’s retelling of tales that are nearly a millennium old. Please note, this production is suitable for those aged 12 and over.
Canterbury Tales is at Stiwt Theatre, Rhos on Wednesday 8th March. Tickets are £9.00 and £7.00 Concession, and can be booked in advance by ringing the Box Office on 01978 841300 or Tourist Information Centre 01978 292015.
