Brassed Off to play in Plas Madoc Leisure Centre
A new stage production of the hit film Brassed Off will perform in Plas Madoc Leisure Centre as part of Clwyd Theatr Cymru'smobile theatre tour to former coal mining communities in north and south Wales. In Plas Madoc the play will feature one of Wales' top brass bands, Wrexham Brass NEWI accompanying a cast of professional Welsh actors.
Wales' only mobile theatre, this is certainly theatre with a difference, built in the sports hall, to resemble a theatre's auditorium. Everything from the set, props, seats, costumes, lighting and stage will be transported in forty foot articulated trucks ready to completely transform the sports hall into a unique and intimate theatrical experience for everyone.
The action will be re-located to Wales in 1994, at a defining moment in the history of Wales when communities were under threat as local collieries were up for closure. When a professional Welsh cast and local brass band join forces, a combination of powerful music and strong Welsh character provides a lively piece of nostalgic theatre that will certainly ring true in Wales' former coalfield communities.
Brassed Off is a moving tale of passion, romance and determination. The struggle is played out in the journey of the colliery band as, through comedy and tragedy, bittersweet failures and glorious triumphs, they battle to survive and then go on to take the biggest prize of all.
The Clwyd Theatr Cymru'sArts & Business mobile theatre sponsored by Lloyds TSB, is a unique collaboration that has been made possible by a £100,000 grant from the Welsh Assembly Government which has generated additional sponsorship funding from Arts & Business Cymruand Lloyds TSB.
This is Clwyd Theatr Cymru'sfifth mobile theatre tour of Wales, having previously toured with the acclaimed production of To Kill a Mockingbird and Brecht's Threepenny Opera, Happy End and Sweeney Todd.
Brassed Off is directed by Terry Hands, one of Britain's leading theatre directors.
