Council, Police and Fire working together to reduce risk of arson
Wrexham Council, North Wales Police and North Wales Fire Authority are working together to reduce the risk of arson in the run-up to Bonfire Night.
Bonfires built on public land before 1 November are liable to be removed by
Wrexham Council as these can be a hazard due to the materials that are placed on them by other people. Wrexham Council can also remove bonfires built after 1 November if the Police or Fire Authority feel that they pose a risk.
The Council wishes to remind people that leaving rubbish on open ground, even as part of a bonfire, does count as dropping litter. As such, anyone doing so faces a fine of £75 and may also be charged for the cost of removing the rubbish.
Wrexham County Borough Council's Lead Member for the Environment Cllr Mark Pritchard said: "We want people to be safe on bonfire night and enjoy the occasion. Therefore, we would encourage people to attend organised events, which are safer for everyone."
If members of the public have concerns about potentially hazardous bonfires they can contact Pride In Your Streets either on 01978 298989 or www.wrexham.gov.uk/streets
