Bodhyfryd School Inspection

The Governing Body of Ysgol Bodhyfryd have welcomed the findings of the recent Inspection carried out at the school.

The Inspectors found that Bodhyfryd was a "school which had improved over recent years and was continuing to improve. Good progress has been made since the last inspection in the majority of subject areas." They concluded that the education which the school provided was "generally good, with some outstanding features."

The school performs well in comparison to similar schools. The Inspectors found that standards of children's achievement was significantly higher than the Welsh Assembly government's targets. Similarly, the standards of teaching were found to be significantly higher than the National targets.

Across the school, children were found to be making good progress in the key areas of Literacy, Numeracy and information and Communication Technology. The Inspectors felt however that work was required to improve the children's independent learning skills.

The children's attitudes and behaviour in lessons, assemblies and during break times were found to be very good. In the Inspector's opinion this had "a very positive effect on their learning and on the contribution they make to the life of the school".

The recommendations include that the school make more effective use of pupil data in order to target individuals and groups of children. The school needs to be aware of the need to provide activities which challenge pupils in order to continue to improve their skills. Also to further develop the school's Self Evaluation procedures to include all stakeholders more effectively.

The report also recommended that due to safety concerns, parking outside the school in Brynycabanau Road needed to be looked into.

Chair of Governors, The Reverend Trefor Jones-Morris said:

"The Governing Body are very pleased with the Report and welcome its findings. They wish to congratulate the staff and pupils on their efforts, and are delighted with the progress the school has made over recent years. They look forward to working in partnership to continue to develop the school during the coming years".
