River Quest - A Biodiversity Awareness Event

An exciting and interesting event is taking place at Alyn Waters Country Park on 10th June when everyone is invited to visit "River Quest" organised by Wrexham's Biodiversity Group.

Activities on offer include taking part in a Giant River Game, Fun Orienteering, Wild Stone Painting, Biodiversity Quiz, Demonstrations on How to tie Fishing Flies and Guided Natural History Walks with Wrexham Birdwatchers.

All activities are free and there will be lots of information available about biodiversity and its importance to our surroundings. The event starts at 10.00 am and will finish at 3.00 pm

Wrexham's Biodiversity Group is made up of several organisations, Wrexham County Borough Council, North West Wildlife trust, Caia Park Environmental Group, Keep Wales Tidy and Resource Efficiency will be manning displays on the day.

The Wrexham Biodiversity Group meets four times a year and is a partnership of government bodies, groups, charities and individuals. The group implements the Wrexham Local Biodiversity Action Plan, which they produced in 2002. Biodiversity Projects which the group is involved in include River habitat enhancement and otter holt construction, pond surveying and management, moorland bird survey and derelict land grassland survey as well as numerous educational and awareness raising projects.

Wales Biodiversity Week takes place between 10th and 18th June and this is one of many events taking place throughout the country that week.
