Anti-"Binge Drinking" Campaign

With the World Cup only days away Wrexham County Borough Council’s Public Protection Service is warning revellers to enjoy the football but not to drink too much beer!

Last week the Wrexham Community Safety Partnership launched its campaign to “show violent crime the red card” in pubs and clubs televising World Cup matches, to help ensure everyone watching the matches can do so in safety and comfort.

Staff from the Council’s Public Protection Department will be out and about next week giving information regarding the affects of alcohol on the body, alcohol poisoning and how many units are contained in individual drinks. Flyers, posters and information leaflets specifically designed for Bar Staff will also be available to them.

Chief Housing and Public Protection Officer, Andy Lewis said: “The majority of people who drink alcohol do so sensibly, without causing harm to themselves or others. This campaign is aimed at the few people who choose to drink irresponsibly, and outlines the physical and emotional impact alcohol can have on the body.”
