Romance in Spring from BBC National Orchestra of Wales
A romantic evening awaits concert-goers at Wrexham's William Aston Hall in March. The BBC National Orchestra of Wales make their Spring visit to Wrexham on Saturday 18th March with a programme which features Rachmaninov's First Symphony, music that has stood the test of time with its power, boldness and originality.
To mark the centenary of the Welsh composer, Grace Williams, the orchestra will be performing the glittering "Penillion for Orchestra". In the last interview before her death, she talked of the influence of her Welsh roots in her music. "In the fifties there was the influence of the rhythms, intonations and cadences of Welsh oratory and the atmosphere of the Mabinogion, which can be felt in my Penillion for Orchestra. Indeed I’ve always considered myself very fortunate to have been born Welsh"
Completing the evening BBC NOW's Principal Trumpet, Philippe Schartz, will be taking centre stage to perform Hummel's lively Trumpet Concerto. With its lyrical melodies, bundles of character and energy, this concerto is reminiscent of Beethoven's style.
Tickets are available now from Wrexham Tourist Information Centre on 01978 292015. Prices range from £8.50 to £12.50 with concessions available. Special family tickets cost just £16.00 for 2 adults and up to 4 children or £10.50 for 1 adult and up to 2 children.
