NOW Back On Tour

The BBC National Orchestra of Wales returns to NEWI William Aston Hall, Wrexham on Saturday 19th March 2005 at 7.30pm as part of its Spring Mid and North Wales Tour. The performance will be conducted by Guest Conductor Takuo Yuasa.

The Orchestra begin the evening with Johann Strauss II Overture from his celebrated nineteenth century opera, Die Fledermaus.

Taking centre stage in the concert to perform Mozart's Clarinet Concerto will be BBC NOW's Principal Clarinettist Robert Plane . Robert, who has played with the Orchestra for 5 years, is a regular soloist and popular figure on the platform.

Speaking about the Mozart Clarinet Concerto, Robert Plane said:

"Mozart's clarinet concerto is certainly the finest work for the clarinet and puts it on the map as a solo instrument. What's amazing is that the music is gloriously melodic and cheerful despite being written in the last year of his life which was one of huge personal torment and misery."

It will be a first visit to Wrexham for new BBC NOW bassoonist, Jaroslav Augustyniak who joined in December 2004. He will be playing the light classic Andante and Rondo Ungarese, for bassoon and orchestra by Carl Maria von Weber.

Schumann's Symphony No 2 is one of the most dramatic of his symphonies with an overriding sense of urgency throughout. This tumultuous piece draws the evening to a powerful conclusion.

Tickets are £8.50, £10.50 and £12.50 with a range of discounts available, including special offers for students and families. Tickets are available from the Tourist Information Centre, Lambpit St, Wrexham, telephone 01978 292015.
