School is praised by inspectors for outstanding features
Alexandra School…. ‘A happy and orderly community where learning thrives’. Inspectors Report April 2006.
Alexandra School has been highly praised following a recent inspection.
The inspection team judged that improvements since the last school inspection had been good with outstanding features including the leadership and management of the school.
The children succeed well in their work regardless of their background and National Curriculum Assessments at key stage 2 are above the national and local average for similar schools. This achievement is particularly remarkable because the percentage of pupils with Special Educational Needs is much higher than average.
The children’s behaviour has been praised and the spiritual and moral development of the children was considered to have outstanding features. Inspectors noted that the children are friendly and helpful towards one another and courteous to the staff and visitors to the school. Another positive comment from the inspection team was that children ‘learn to recognise positive qualities in themselves and treat everyone with respect.
Headteacher Richard Lloyd said that his staff were delighted that the inspection team noticed that ‘the pupils enjoy coming to school and benefit from its warm, friendly ethos. The staff are very good role models and relationships are outstanding. Pupils have a feeling of belonging to a happy orderly community where learning can thrive’.
Teaching at Alexandra school is of a very high standard, 94% of lessons were good or better, exceeding Government targets for 2006 and 2007. Outstanding features were identified throughout the school, reflecting the tireless work of a highly effective and motivated team of staff who share agreed values, have high expectations and a clear sense of purpose.
Mathematics, English, Information Technology, History and P.E were all judged to be good at Key Stages 1 and 2 and provision for the under 5’s was awarded a grade 1, the top mark, for all aspects of work.
Chair of Governors, Carol Crump said: “We would like to extend our warm thanks to Andrew Clark and his team for their professionalism and positive attitude throughout the inspection. Alexandra School prides itself on its friendly, caring approach to learning and will continue to build on the positive aspects of this report.
The school will take full account of the suggestions the team made to further enhance provision including creating greater challenge for more able pupils, involving children in the assessment of their own work and developing children’s involvement in the world of work”.
Headteacher, Richard Lloyd said: “We are all thrilled with this report and extremely proud of everybody’s contribution to its positive outcome. Alexandra’s a great school, with loyal staff and governors and wonderful pupils who help make it what it is.”
Wrexham County Borough Council’s Chief Learning and Achievement Officer Hywyn Williams said: “Congratulations to the staff, governors and pupils on their successful inspection report. It is very pleasing to see that all their efforts and hard work have paid off.”
