Bite size chunks of learning on the menu in West Wrexham

ADULTS in the West Wrexham area are being encouraged to take the first steps in a vital journey into learning as part of Adult Learners' Week (May 17-24 2008).

Taster sessions in Tai Chi, Jazz Dancing, Manicures & Pedicures, Reflexology, Jewellery Making, Tracing your family tree, Computer Maintenance, Hanging Baskets, Shopping on the internet, Belly Dancing, Sugar Craft, Local History, Flower arranging, Face painting, Introduction to construction, Calligraphy, Indian Head Massage, Boxersize and Mini Keepsake books are being staged at a number of venues within the West Wrexham Area throughout the week as part of the week long festival of adult learning, co-ordinated by NIACE Dysgu Cymru backed by the European Social Fund, Wrexham County Borough Council and West Wrexham Partnership.

Event organiser Mrs Toni Godolphin of Wrexham County Borough Council said: “The timetable of events is very varied and something for all the community to come and have a go, come and try your hand at something new!”

Adult Learners’ Week is a major festival of learning to encourage more people to take a first step back into learning. It is also celebration of the growing number of adults in Wales who have enriched their lives and improved their prospects through education and training.

Thanks to the events and taster sessions organised during Adult Learners’ Week 2007 more than 17,000 people attended over 860 events.

Kay Smith of NIACE Dysgu Cymru, said: “Local events demonstrate to people how learning can be fun, flexible and how it can open up a whole new world of possibilities.

“The only way people are going to find out what learning can do for them is by giving it a try and Adult Learners’ Week provides the perfect opportunity for adults to do just that.”
