Adult Learners' Week 2006

Once again Wrexham will play host to a series of events as part of the UK’s largest festival of learning.

Adult Learners’ Week 2006 (ALW) takes place between the 20th and 26th May 2006 and is aimed at giving adults the opportunity to learn about a variety of topics in addition to discovering new skills for life.

As part of this event, the library is continuing its programme of internet taster sessions, giving people a basic introduction to computers and to the Internet. For those of you who have already used the Internet, you can also call into the library to learn the most effective ways to use the web to trace your family tree! In the Family History session staff will be on hand to show you the best websites and the range of information that you can track down. Family History will take place on Wednesday 24th May between 9.30am and 11.30am at Wrexham Library. For more information please contact John Thomas on 01978 292091.

For those budding entrepreneurs who are looking to start up their own business, Businessline will be running an informal workshop on business planning for the small business. The session will focus on the creation of that all important business plan, looking at what it should be used for, how it should be structured and what it should contain. This session will be held at Wrexham Arts Centre between 10am and 11am on Monday 22nd May. For more information, please contact Karen Morrisroe on 01978 292632.

During ALW, Wrexham Library’s foyer will display information from the local branch of the University of the Third Age (U3A). The aim of this group is to enable older people to share their knowledge, skills and experience and show their value to society. The display will show the range of meetings that U3A offers and highlights the activities open to its members.

The foyer will also be the site for information on RaW, the BBC’s current literacy campaign. You will be able to collect information and resources for you to develop your reading skills.

There will also be an opportunity to find out which languages are spoken in Wrexham, AND you can find out which you can learn! In an interactive display you can add your native tongue and then use the library’s own stock to learn another!

For more information on these and other ALW events in Wrexham, please contact Lynne Jones on 01978 292604.
