Acton Park Heritage Lottery Fund Grant

Wrexham Council in partnership with Acton Community Council have been successful in applying for a grant of £47,000 from the "Parks For People" Heritage Lottery Fund.

The project planning grant will be used to consult with the local community, develop a blueprint that will look at the history of the site and map out how the park can be improved for the future, without damaging its historical value as one of Wrexham's oldest landscaped parks.

Jennifer Stewart, Manager for the Heritage Lottery Fund in Wales said: "Open spaces play such an important role as havens from the bustle of daily life, and we are thrilled to be able to give Wrexham County Borough Council a grant to help them plan a large repair and conservation project, and find new ways of involving local people in the park's heritage."

John Bradbury, Chief Environment Officer for Wrexham County Borough Council said: "We will be working closely with Acton Community Council on this project over the coming year and will be very keen to involve the local community in the consultation process".

Councillor Ron Davies of Little Acton said: "I am delighted with this announcement. The grant of £47,000 is the first stage in improving Acton Park and restoring the park to its former glory. Acton is a very beautiful natural park but it is in need of some improvement and maintenance."

Councillor Jim Kelly of Borras Park said: "We have seen an increased use of the park in recent years so this money is vitally important to ensure it remains a popular attraction. I am very pleased that this money has been made available to progress this project to its next stage."

Councillor Geoff Lowe of Acton said: "This gives the park a real opportunity to develop in the long-term and have a managed future if a subsequent bid is successful. The team in the Environment Department has worked really hard to ensure that we secured this funding and will be working closely with the community to get their ideas on how to protect Acton Park for people to enjoy in the future."
