Wrexham Town Centre Accessible to All

Wrexham prides itself on being a place to suit people from all walks of life. From the young and independent, to families and the more mature visitor, Wrexham has something to suit all. The introduction of a new and innovative way of providing information will enable Wrexham to welcome an even wider range of visitors.

The Economic Development Department of Wrexham County Borough Council, in partnership with Fieldsman Trails, has developed an 'Accessible Guide to Wrexham Town Centre'. Aimed at ensuring disabled visitors are prepared in advance of their visit to Wrexham, the guide, which includes a handbook and series of maps, highlights all that Wrexham has to offer. In addition to the wealth of Attractions that visitors can enjoy, the guide allows visitors to 'explore' the town centre in advance, noting all that may be of importance during their visit. From shops, access points, drop kerbs and crossings, obstructions on pavements, to car parks and cash points. Whilst these may be taken for granted by most, providing this information for disabled people in preparation for their visit is essential.

An exciting development within the project is the opportunity of obtaining this information 'on-line'. The 'Access Guide' which is available in large print, Braille and audio version (available soon), is now available and is the first guide of its kind to be available on-line. Dave Hylands, Chief Information Systems Officer at Wrexham County Borough Council said

'We are extremely pleased to be able to offer this service through the County Borough website. Our site was the first local authority website in the United Kingdom to be awarded the Royal National Institute of the Blind's 'See It Right' Accessible Website logo, and we are committed to making the site as accessible as possible to disabled users, including users who may be blind or partially sighted. This new and innovative development compliments the outstanding work that has already been done in ensuring our site is accessible to all'.

The guide is available in both Welsh and English in large print, Braille and audio version.
