The Mayor of Wrexham, Cllr David Rogers said:
"It is very important that we pay our respects to the 261 miners who died on this day 70 years ago. Whilst the collieries are now gone the memories of the Gresford Disaster, the worst disaster in the history of the North Wales coalfields, and the second worst mining disaster in Wales, will always be remembered in Wrexham and further afield."
