Results from the Registration Questionnaire

Ty Dewi SantThe Registration Questionnaire garnered many replies and the lucky winner of £50.00 worth of gift vouchers was Mrs Louise Morcumb from Penley

The replies have been collated and, as a result, the Executive Board of Wrexham County Borough Council has agreed to some new and exciting changes to the services that we offer.

With effect from 3rd May 2005 and, as a direct result of the data collected via the questionnaire, the Register Office will be open to the public from 8.45am until 5.15pm Mondays to Thursdays and 8.45am until 4.45pm on Fridays. The registration of births and deaths will be by appointment with the first appointment being at 9am and the last at 4.30pm (4pm Fridays). Appointments for the attesting of Notices of Marriage will be available from 9.30am until 5pm Mon-Wed and 9.30am until 4pm on Thursdays and Fridays.

On two days per month Notices of Marriage will also be attested from 8am.

From this date various new ceremonies will also be offered including Naming Ceremonies, Reaffirmation of Marriage Vows Ceremonies and Commitment Ceremonies (ceremonies for couples who, for whatever reason, cannot or will not marry one another). Please note that these are civil ceremonies and allow for no religious content whatsoever. It should also be noted that these ceremonies have no legal status and commemorative certificates issued at the time of the ceremony cannot be used to establish any legal rights.

In December 2005, The Civil Partnership Register comes into force enabling same-sex couples to, in the eyes of the law, 'legalise' their relationship. This register is legal and binding and allows couples various rights, such as pension, tenancy, inheritance etc.

There will be no legal obligation for couples to take part in a 'ceremony' but, the Executive Board has agreed that we, in the Wrexham Registration Service, can offer a ceremony which we hope will enhance the signing of the Civil Partnership Register and will help to ensure that the day will be one to remember.
