Supporting learning through children's play

We can do this by

• Sharing time

• Talking and encouraging language, looking at books

• Encouraging curiosity and interest in the world around them

• Fostering social skills and behaviour

• Encouraging language and communication

• Developing self confidence and awareness of self

• Lending help and support when appropriate

• Ensuring safe environments for play

• Creating opportunities for all types of play

• Developing a variety of skills

• Having fun

How do we do this?

• By working closely with parents, carers and other professionals

• By linking with pre-school providers and building in to existing pre-school frameworks and organisations

What do we do?

• Work with parents and individual children in both group and individual home settings
  - Play packs have been developed to ensure a variety of play opportunities to suit the needs of individual children.
  - Individual programme

• Work within Playgroups and pre-school settings offering advice and support for children and staff as requested.

• Work with parents and children in groups in the community.

Activities covered have included:-

• Storysacks

• Play/Craft activities

• Songs/Rhymes

• Toy Libraries

• Offer advice and support with play activities

• Develop of Play Packs on loan to parents to develop awareness of play ideas and activities

• Toy library - advice on appropriate age-related toys and use

• Advice on all areas of play - looking at providing opportunities for play in all areas.
