The Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) has asked every county (including us in Wrexham) to produce a Children and Young People's Plan (CYPP) which explains what we're going to do in the future for the benefit of children, young people, and their families. We have to use WAG's seven Core Aims.
These seven core aims are based on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, and they say that all children and young people in Wales have the right to:
- A Flying Start in Life
- A Comprehensive Range of Education, Training, and Learning Opportunities
- The Best Possible Health Free from Abuse, Victimisation, and Exploitation
- Play, Leisure, Sporting and Cultural Activities
- Be Treated with Respect and have their Race and Cultural Identity Recognised
- A Safe Home and Community
- Not be disadvantaged by Poverty
The plan will also make sure that we keep on track and really do what we've said we're going to do.
It will take us a while to pull together all the answers you give us, but we should be able to tell people the main ideas coming out by the end of January. We will tell you which ideas we are going to be able to use in the new Children and Young People's (CYP), Plan and which we cannot use right now, and why.
We will be sending the draft CYP Plan out for people to have a look at and comment on starting on 26 May 08 and ending on 15 August 08. This means that there will be 12 weeks for you to read what we're putting forward and to let us know what you think. You will be able to see the ideas you've given us in the draft CYP Plan. We can then make the changes needed before the final CYP Plan is published in September 2008.
All the things you told us will be published in full when the CYP Plan itself is launched in September 2008.
Please make sure your ideas get back to the Children and Young People's Framework Partnership by sending it back to Louise Hulme at:
Tŷ Henblas, Queen's Square, Wrexham LL13 8AZ
OR by e-mailing CYPconsult07@wrexham.gov.uk OR, you can call Louise on 01978 292000
